A Somerset town could soon see a defibrillator fitted in a central telephone box. Midsomer Norton Council is currently assessing the feasability of providing this life-saving device to the community.
The council is considering moving a phone box from its existing location in the Hillside area of town to a more central location just outside the town hall. A defibrillator would be provided by the Rotary Club.
Representatives of the council told the media they hoped the public would respect the phone box and the valuable equipment within.
Many communities already have public access to a defibrillator on the high street or in similarly accessible places.
Defibrillators are used to give the heart an electric shock in some instances of cardiac arrest.
