Actor and comedian Russell Brand has been charged a $500 fine, and ordered to complete 20 hours of community service for an act of violence against a photographer in New Orleans in March.
Brand could have faced a prison sentence of up to six months for allegedly throwing the man's iPhone through the window of a nearby law firm.
Attorney Robert Glass attended the court in New Orleans on behalf of Brand to enter a not guilty plea. The case could be dismissed if Brand can prove he has completed the service by August 31st.
Glass expressed hope that the actor might be able to carry out his community service through his charitable work with people suffering from addictions.
At the time of the incident, Brand tweeted: "Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iPhone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory."
